Nickel is found in the metal screws in some hinges. BPA is found in polycarbonate lenses. BPA is a chemical listed under California’s Proposition 65 because it has been shown to potentially affect the reproductive system. However, the amount of BPA present in our lenses is extremely small and poses no significant health risk under normal use. You would need to ingest an unrealistic number of lenses for it to have a biological impact.
Proposition 65 requires this notice for any product sold to California consumers that contains a listed chemical, regardless of where the seller is based. This warning doesn't mean the product violates any safety standard, only that it contains a chemical at a level that triggers this disclosure requirement.
